Language Learning Benefits: Save the World

Ever wanted to be a superhero? Well, before I dispense with my hyperbole, you’ll forgive me for saying that one of the biggest language learning benefits is that you might well save the world.

How Can Learning A Language Help Save The World?

You need only watch the news at 5. Bombings, terrorism, war. Regardless of where you’re from, there is always a new enemy. Most of the time, it’s a foreigner stranger, trying to steal your life, love or liberty. The problem is we don’t understand each other. The reality is that 99% of people are just trying to make their way in the world. Scaremongering by the press could be ended if everyone understood a bit more about the cultures that are apparently evil.

That’s not to say that there aren’t bad people out there, because there are. But again, most people don’t want any trouble.

You know that there are some pretty heavy language learning benefits if you’ve started learning a foreign language with some success. Language learning  benefits like:

  1. Increased Income Opportunities.
  2. A Wider Social Circle.
  3. More exposure to interesting ideas.

Here is another of these cultural language learning benefits. When you ask a foreigner about the country and culture they come from, you’re taking an interest in them as a person. Foreigners can feel alienated, and by asking, you are allieviating that. You might make someone who is down feel great for a while. If you ask to practice their language with them, you’re making a foreign speaker feel useful, wanted, appreciated.

I don’t normally talk about politics, but the wider cultural idea I’m trying to spread with this post is that it’s hard to create a villain if everyone gets on.

If this doesn’t float your boat, other language learning benefits include that you’re more accustomed to different cultures when you travel. You’ll be less unintentionally rude, and people will like you more. You’ll be bringing trade to areas that otherwise wouldn’t get that trade. These all make the World a better place, as well as helping you out personally.
